James Burley

Weightlifting Coach

Here is James’ weightlifting story…

“From a very young age I developed a love for the sport of Olympic Weightlifting. At the age of 11 I had already started my journey and my ambition was clear; I wanted to win all the competitions I entered and be the best for my age and weight category. Having this mindset led me to competing in both national and international events, such as the 'British Senior Championships' and the 'Commonwealth Youth Games' held in Pune, India.

For many years I travelled to competitions all over the UK setting junior records and achieving high rankings within my weight category. In order to fulfil my goals I dedicated a lot of time during my weightlifting career to ensure I was receiving the correct coaching needed to improve my technique and build strength. During this time I also helped out with coaching; passing my knowledge on to less experienced weightlifters and helping them to achieve the goals they had set for themselves.

To this day, I do my best to stay active and keep involved with the British Weightlifting Association. I love hearing about new records being set, competition news, and most importantly I enjoy keeping up to date with new training / coaching techniques.

Aside from weightlifting, I am a local business owner at Classique Blinds in Stewarton and I come home every night to my wonderful wife, my two pups Ginny and Nessa, and wee Wanda the cat.”
